Donna, deck mud is fine to use. Don’t worry about putting anything underneath the pan just follow my guide and you will be good. My method is good for all floor levels.

3/4 of an inch will be fine.

But that would be to your farthest wall.

yes, it’s in the center. It NOT the one with a 1/4 lip for membrane. It’s the one you place in the drain by itself (like your video shower)

Is the drain in the center of the pan?

I am using the same shower drain that you are. It is out of the floor by one inch right now. My shower is 3 x 5. Do I have to raise the adjustable part UP by 3/4 of an inch before I mark my 2×4’s on the wall?

Joe, My walls are all done. Here’s my question. I didn’t apply an EZ Niche in the wall before the concrete board. Can I apply one now and have the “llip” of it go over the concrete board. I would then thinset around it to smooth and feather it out. Donna

Donna, Yes you can. Did you have a place pre-planned for it? The thing that is nice about EZ Niche is you can put it almost anywhere but be careful not to hit a water line when cutting the cement board if you are putting this in the wet wall(the wall with the plumbing).

Joe, does that drain come in a 2″ version? My pipe under the substrate is only 2″ and the drain you use seems to be 3″. I guess I bought the wrong drain. I have the one in your video that you don’t use. So, if I use that drain, then I can’t screw it into the floorboard, because then it wouldn’t be 1″ off the floor

Donna, yes the drain I used is a 2 inch drain. The drain you have is meant for using a pan liner. I would get the other type of drain that I use I’m the video.

Joe, thanks. I got the other drain and it worked great, not to mention it was cheaper. Finishing the cement board now, then I will start the pan liner. Thank you for all your help.

Is that plywood on the floor, or dement board?

That is plywood on the floor. You could put cement board on the entire floor before building the pan. I didn’t because I was trying to keep the curb as low to the floor as I could. So because I didn’t do the cement board first I lowered the height of the curb a half inch. This is a lot when you are an elderly woman or man who has to step over it.
